Precipitation Hardening Stainless Steel

Material Specifications

Precipitation Hardening (PH) Stainless Steels (encompassing martensitic, semi-austenitic, and austenitic PH grades such as 17-4 PH / UNS S17400, 15-5 PH / UNS S15500, 13-8 Mo / UNS S13800, 17-7 PH / UNS S17700, Custom 450 / UNS S45000, Custom 455 / UNS S45500, Custom 465 / UNS S46500, and AM 355 / UNS S35500) represent a premier class of high-strength chromium-nickel alloys that develop ultra-high mechanical properties through a single-step, low-temperature aging heat treatment. By precipitating sub-microscopic intermetallic phases (copper, aluminum, titanium, niobium, and molybdenum) within a martensitic or austenitic matrix, PH stainless steels achieve ultra-high tensile strengths (up to 1800 MPa / 260 ksi), superior fracture toughness, and high fatigue endurance with virtually zero distortion or quench cracking. Providing corrosion resistance comparable to austenitic Grade 304, along with excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in marine and aerospace environments, Precipitation Hardening fasteners, studs, hex bolts, pump shafts, turbine hardware, and high-pressure actuator components are widely specified across aerospace, defense, subsea oil & gas, nuclear energy, and high-performance racing industries.
